Creating Centers of Educational Excellence

          Creating Centers of Educational Excellence combines the establishment of an excellent literacy environment with the presentation of scientifically based literacy instruction.  Project ROAR will provide each pre-school classroom with “Breakthrough to Literacy” which is an excellent scientifically based literacy curriculum, as well as an abundance of rich literacy materials modeling age-appropriate print creating literacy rich pre-school centers.     

          Project ROAR teachers will deliver intentional and explicit instruction based on scientific research, and will conduct ongoing screening assessments to determine what skills children have mastered and to identify children who may be at risk of reading failure.  Teaching staff will be provided with continuous and ongoing professional development that will include mentoring and coaching in the classroom.  Through improvements in instruction and the classroom environment that are grounded on scientifically based reading research, Project ROAR will help children develop the oral language skills, phonological awareness, print awareness and alphabet knowledge that will prepare them for later school success.
