The Raising A Reader book bag program has been implemented into each of the Early Reading First centers. This program encourages parents to engage in quality time with their children. There are four books in each bookbag, which are presented to the children on a weekly basis. Children eagerly await the distribution of their new bags, each week. Raising A Reader bags offer a variety of book styles and provide parents with books to enhance the literacy rich environment at home. This program also contains a parent involvement curriculum, which is discussed during the monthly parent meetings. This curriculum encourages parents to read to their children and gives them valuable information on how to engage their children in discussion over the books that are read to them.
