Parent Involvement

Each month literacy meetings are held at the Project R.O.A.R. centers. These meetings give parents the opportunity to engage in discussions with other parents and to gain insightful information into their role towards enhancing their child’s literacy skills. It also gives them the opportunity to ask questions about literacy. Transition meetings are held at the public schools and meetings are also held at the public libraries. During each of these monthly meetings, various techniques and book types are focused on. The “Raising A Reader” curriculum and the “Reading Starts With Us” curriculum that was developed by Scholastic are used at each of these meetings.. Families that attend the meetings receive a book for their child, along with valuable literacy information. The two classrooms with the highest attendance are awarded a Project R.O.A.R. PALS (Parents Assist Literacy Success) banner, which hangs in there classroom until the following month.
