Swink Teacher Idea
During Spring we studied insects and plants. We painted large styrofoam cups and filled them with potting soil and planted flower seeds. We waited for them to grow. If a student's flower did not grow, I bought flowers to put in their cups so they would all have a flower.
We also ordered tiny caterpillars from Insect Lore. Within 7 to 10 days they form chrysalids and within another 7 to 10 days the butterflies will begin to emerge. You can then place fresh flowers with sugar water on them, fresh cut oranges or watermelon in the Butterfly Pavillion to feed your beautiful new butterflies. After observing the butterflies for a couple weeks, you can then release them.
This website also has game and learning sections for kids to learn more about insects.
